I work as a charge nurse in Hartwood Hospital in Shotts, Lanarkshire, Scotland and you can find out more about the history of Hartwood if you click on the Work Stuff Link.
I was born in MOTHERWELL and attended schools in both Motherwell and Wishaw. If you attended any of these try Friends Reunited and see if there are any of your schoolfriends listed there.
I now live in HAMILTON which is a small town on the River Clyde about 10 miles from Glasgow, it has a large park which it shares with Motherwell and staged the World Rowing Championships in 1996. Close to the river is the Hamilton Mausoleum the building was the crypt for the Hamilton family and although built to be a place of worship was never able to achieve that function due to the echo which lasts 15 seconds. Close by is Chatelherault Park with its focal point being Chatelherault House and it's famous white cattle. Just a few miles away is the county town of Lanark which has a memorial to William Wallace ( of Braveheart fame ) at the foot of the high street. Lanark is more famous for it's World Heritage Village of New Lanark built by Robert Owen who became a leading industrialist with forward thinking ideas like his school for the children of the mill workers, this village has been recently renovated and is now a leading tourist attraction which ranks with major sites like the Pyramids of Giza and the Taj Mahal.
Close to Hamilton is the village of Blantyre which was the birthplace of Dr. David Livingstone the famous explorer of AFRICA, he discovered the Victoria Falls, fought to abolish slavery and was the man who was greeted with that famous phrase "Dr. Livingstone I presume" uttered by reporter Henry Morton Stanley who was sent to find him by the New York Herald Tribune newspaper .
I used to drive Minis and I guess that's why I enjoy the film The Italian Job. . Pictured is the latest version of the Mini, now made by BMW and the current family car, the Ford Focus.
